New features of version 2.x
- 3d support. Now SaliCAD allows you to see the projected board in the form of a 3d solid model
- the 3d view of the component is shown when the component is inserted into the schematic diagram
- the built-in parametric editor of component models allows you to create 3d models of components without the involvement of third-party programs, and also does not require 3D design skills
- parametric representation of models radically reduces the requirements for occupied space, and also greatly simplifies the design by simply replicating 3d objects, such as pins
- parametric representation allows the reuse of objects of their own, as well as those created by other users, such as pins, part bodies, etc.
- in addition to creating 3d models, SaliCAD supports importing models created in external editors. Currently, vrml format is available for import
- a new concept of a local repository. Now the local repository is represented directly in the file system and each repository object is available as a file. This allows you to add, copy and delete repository objects, while SaliCAD constantly scans the local repository and tracks all changes made from the outside. This approach allows you to share your components bypassing the central repository: just archive your local repository or part of it and forward it to your partner. He will unzip it into his own, and SaliCAD will automatically perform the merge
- new rules of the central repository. Only objects created by an authorized user of the system are sent to the central repository. All available objects are loaded from the central repository, regardless of the user's authorization
- an authorized user can prohibit the automatic sending of their objects to the central repository, for example, for reasons of trade secrets. At the same time, getting objects from the central repository remains available
- a compact binary format for storing projects has been implemented. The main goal is to reduce the file size. The text storage format is still available and can be selected by the user when saving. The binary format is selected by default. Binary and text format are completely equivalent
- a unique opportunity to calculate schemes. SaliCAD allows you to embed calculation formulas directly into the scheme, and to "bind" the results and parameters to the components. Thus, it is possible to calculate, for example, the values of resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc.
- the ability to create a library of fragments or standard solutions and place it in local and central repositories
- when inserting a component, SaliCAD suggests using a typical fragment using this component (if there is such a fragment in the repository)
- unique opportunities for publishing fragments. SaliCAD supports export to the WEB text format, which can be inserted directly into the html document of a WEB page and formalized with a link, when clicked on which the fragment is placed in the clipboard and can be immediately inserted into an open project bypassing the operations of downloading, opening, selecting, copying, etc.
SaliCAD features
- open source project
- free for noncommercial use
- crossplatform support. SaliCAD available for Windows, Linux and OS X
- multilanguage support
- a single central repository for components and a local repository for offline work. Automatic synchronization of these repositories allows you to get components created by other users of the system in real time
- the central repository is accessible to all users of the system and allows you to share created components, as well as use components created by other users
- fully integrated program. In one place there are:
- graphic symbol editor
- graphic part editor
- parametric editor of component 3d models with a preview of the model
- dialog component editor
- dialog inherited component editor
- graphic schematic editor
- graphic pcb editor
- viewing the pcb in 3d
- allow start many program simultaneously
- allow in one program open and edit many projects
- support multiwindow. Allow copy, cut, paste between windows and program
- fast command selection with tool bar and/or menu bar
- extened selection mode allow move, copy, rotate, delete one or more selected objects and also change their properties
- any changes of schematic diagram immediately applies to pcb and vise-versa
- wide using of smart modes, which allow significantly speed up the development process
- wizards for creation symbols, parts and part 3d models
- export to variaty formats: gerber, smt placer, text bom
- json internal file format, that allow transfering data files accross platform over internet
- by default, the project file is saved in a compressed binary format, at the user's choice, it can also be saved in text form
